Next week I’m planning on posting a few things I’ve been working on, as I should have more time. A new track with Liam is burning a hole in my brain, and continuing The Southern Arm story is always fun.
I’m also playing around with the idea of recapping good fantasy books that I like on here, although it’s really tempting to talk about why I hate The Name of the Wind. Well, more so The Wise Man’s Fear, really.
For those of you who haven’t read The Stormlight Archive series, I highly recommend it. I’m halfway through a reread of Words of Radiance, and I’m thoroughly enjoying it the second time around; I particularly find myself getting attached to certain orders of Knights Radiant, such as the Dustbringers. That link doesn’t have a ton of info, as there isn’t much known, at this point—but that makes it cooler, if you ask me.
One of my favorite worldbuilding strategies is the sprinkling of seemingly random information throughout the story, because if you think about it, that’s how our minds work. We don’t infodump to ourselves unless we’re learning something entirely new, so why would our characters? Sanderson is a master of this, which is why I enjoy reading him so much. Frankly, one of his books might be the first I recap on here….maybe Elantris, or Mistborn.
Stay tuned, if you’re into that sort of thing!
